BALLYMUN FIRE AFTERMATH 758A9258.jpg
22/3/2018. Ballymun Fire Aftermath. No lives were lost and no injuries sustained in the Metro Hotel fire in Ballymun last night, but both residents and guests have lost personal belongings. Firefighters who were praised for the manner in which they evacuated the build and dealt with the fire, have today raised issues about the condition of the equipment available to them. Pointing out that with one exception ladders and engines were all purchaced seconhand, with ladders with a maximum height of 30meters as opposed to the latest ones available having a reach of 42 meters. Members of the SIPTU Firefighters Branch have also express concern about the very limited inspection of buildins with cladding in the country. Pointing out that if the Metro Hotel had cladding, the end result in terms of a successful outcome, might have been very different. Photo shows L to R.
